Ann Magnuson - performance artist,
director of the New Wave Vaudeville Show

I think we were prolonging our childhood and exercising the demons of popular culture in these different theatrical ways. We had a lot of theme parties, and we would go out in the streets and get the sets and the decor out of garbage cans, and create these environments that everybody went wild in. I remember that Klaus came to Club 57 a lot. Always wearing black, always looking very German...I can see him very clearly sitting at this couch near the bar, and he was always there with Adrian - that whole little crowd, they were so New Wave, so New Wave, I just thought they were very au courant, very fashionable, very European. I was a hick from West Virginia deep down, and I’d think, wow - Klaus was so sophisticated.
