I was 22 or something, had a loft up on 38th Street in Manhattan, and it was kind of Grand Central for every freak in New York! And just basically playing music, learning how to do stuff, and hanging out in clubs. I think Klaus came up to my loft, he says “I want to do new electronic music,” and I didn’t know if he was sincere or just trying to pick me up. And I thought, well, this guy’s great. Let’s give it a try. We’ll just turn on the tape recorder and see what we can do. We dabbled around a little bit a couple of times, and Klaus sang, and I just -god knows what- made noises in the background and we wound up doing a track called the Nomi Chant, which wound up on the first album.
